Collection consists chiefly of letters to Mezzotero relating to academic matters during the 1920s, during which time Mezzotero completed graduate work at Pennsylvania State College with a masters thesis on Moliere, researched Ph.D. programs, fellowship opportunities, and faculty openings in Romance Languages, and served as an instructor at Allegheny and Bates colleges. There are letters from representatives of numerous administrative offices and literature departments, including Rodolph Altrocchi, Irving Lysander Foster, and Joseph Louis Russo, as well as the Portland Evening News, for which Mezzotero reviewed works of French literature. Several letters from Foster, a faculty member at Pennsylvania State College, offer support, advice on the job search, and book recommendations for courses. There are also two letters from Mezzotero to others.
